Who we are?
Crosby Weighing Machine Services is a family-owned business run by Robert Crosby and two of his sons, Peter and John.
The business was started in 1977 by Robert after the Dutch weighing machine company for which he was UK Service Manager closed its UK operations. Initially, the business serviced heavy industrial installations nationally but as the business became established it picked-up new customers across a variety of sectors, industries and types of installation throughout the UK but, primarily, in the North East.
John and Peter joined the business in the late eighties and early nineties respectively working as service engineers initially and then assisting in the management of the business. Both John and Peter spent around 10 years working in the business before moving on to take-up careers elsewhere.
In 2012 both Peter and John found themselves working away from home and with Robert, now in his sixties, contemplating retirement both decided during 2012 to make the move back into the family business to take it on into the future.
The company has ambitious plans for growth with the intention to become the premier full spectrum weighing equipment services provider in the North East and has invested significantly in the business to achieve this aim.
Building on the strong tradition of professional and personal service provided by Robert over the years the company aims to recruit and train a number of engineers to enable this service to be delivered to a greater number of customers throughout the North East of England. Having incorporated the business in 2011 and obtained accreditation’s in quality and health and safety management; in 2017 the company joined the UK Weighing Federation. The company operates two weighbridge test units out of the North East of England travelling all over the UK to carry out weighbridge calibration services.
The company is not affiliated to any particular product manufacturer but can supply, service and calibrate weighing equipment of almost all makes. This enables the company to provide truly independent advice and service to the majority of weighing equipment available in the UK.
